Statement
Section 172 of the Licensing Act 2003 allows the Secretary of State for the Home Department to make a Licensing Hours Order (‘Order’) relaxing opening hours for licensed premises (any premises with a premises licence or a club premises certificate) in England and Wales to mark an occasion of ‘exceptional international, national or local significance’.
The Government has consulted on a proposal to make such an Order to relax licensing hours in England and Wales to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day. The Order, which was laid before the House yesterday, will extend licensed opening hours from 11pm on Friday 8 May 2020 to 1am the following morning on Saturday 9 May 2020, and from 11pm on Saturday 9 May 2020 to 1am the following morning on Sunday 10 May 2020, for premises licensed for the sale of alcohol for consumption on the premises and for premises licensed for the provision of regulated entertainment.
An Impact Assessment has been prepared and will be published alongside the Order on legislation.gov.uk.
