To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what steps she plans to take in response to the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights on her proposals to deport migrants who cross the Channel in small boats to Rwanda.

The European Court of Human Rights has not issued a final judgment in the relation to the UK’s Migration and Economic Development Partnership with Rwanda. In June 2022, the European Court of Human Rights granted last-minute interim measures which prohibited the removal of individuals set to be relocated to Rwanda on 14 June 2022. An interim measure remains in place until three weeks after the end of ongoing judicial review proceedings in the UK in relation to this policy. In making these interim measures, the European Court of Human Rights did not rule that the policy or removals were unlawful. There were three hearings in the ongoing judicial review proceedings in the UK courts in September and October. We are awaiting judgment in those cases.
