Hospitals: Generators

Question for Department of Health and Social Care

UIN 70944, tabled on 25 October 2022

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment her Department has made of the likelihood of required widespread use of back-up diesel generators to support the delivery of vital health services during winter 2022.

While we do not expect any disruption, the Department continues to work with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on the assessment of the likelihood of powers outages. All National Health Service organisations are required to have business continuity plans in place to support the continued safe provision of services to patients in a number of different scenarios, including loss of power. These plans seek to ensure that critical services to patients in all settings can be delivered with as minimal disruption as possible. Where available, sites can make use of back-up generators if required.
