Question for Department of Health and Social Care

UIN 143588, tabled on 21 March 2022

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, whether GPs will continue to act as points of referral for community services, such as audiology, following the implementation of the Government's white paper on Health and social care integration, published on 9 February 2022.

General practitioner (GP) practices are responsible for meeting the reasonable needs of their patients, including referring to appropriate services. GPs use their clinical judgement to best assess when it is appropriate to seek specialist expertise and will only make a referral if they believe that specialist assessment or treatment is necessary. General practices work with community health services and other health, social and voluntary sector partners in Primary Care Networks to deliver integrated and personalised care. The integration white paper emphasises the importance of this collaboration and GPs will continue to refer patients following the White Paper’s implementation.
