Espionage: Russia

Question for Home Office

UIN 131293, tabled on 28 February 2022

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what steps the Government is taking to tackle the potential operation in the UK of covert agents acting for the Russian state.

While I cannot comment on the detail of security or intelligence matters, the UK has taken significant steps in recent years to counter the threat posed by the Russian state. We have repeatedly exposed the reckless and dangerous activities of the Russian Intelligence Services.

The Government will be introducing new legislation, as soon as parliamentary time allows, to ensure our security services and law enforcement agencies have the tools they need to disrupt the evolving threat posed from hostile activity by foreign states.
