Nigeria: Visits Abroad

Question for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

UIN HL6365, tabled on 23 February 2022

Access to the region is limited due to security concerns, however, the Minister was able to meet with a range of interlocutors in Abuja, including faith and NGO leaders, who are supporting peace efforts in Nigeria's Middle Belt. The Minister heard a range of views on the differing and complex causes of conflicts in the region, and discussed the impact on affected communities. Causes include systematic governance failings, and competition over land and resources. Ethnic and religious tensions also play a role.
