Afghanistan: Politics and Government

Question for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office

UIN 96877, tabled on 4 January 2022

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assessment her Department has made of the relative effectiveness of the different approaches to the withdrawal from Afghanistan of the UK and French Governments; and whether those different approaches were the result of different policies or different intelligence.

The FCDO worked closely alongside our diplomatic and military allies throughout the end of the Resolute Support Mission and the withdrawal of our diplomatic staff from Afghanistan and we continue to learn lessons from events there over the last few months. The UK and France share many interests in Afghanistan. Our shared contribution to Afghanistan over the past twenty years has ensured that a generation of women and girls received an education and enabled significant development gains. We continue to stand for these values and to work closely with our allies to deliver our objectives.
