Question for Department for Transport

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what assessment he has made of the effect on (a) passenger numbers and (b) income to the public purse that would result from (i) increasing rail fares by RPI+1, (ii) increasing rail fares by RPI, (iii) freezing rail fares, and (iv) reducing rail fares by 5 per cent.

Prior to any fares changes, Ministers consider analysis of a variety of options. Any changes on forthcoming national rail fares changes for 2022 will be announced in due course.
