The FCDO is in daily contact with development partners about Afghanistan and will continue to engage with them directly as the situation develops. On 20 August, FCDO officials convened a meeting with 30 NGOs working in the areas of development, humanitarian support, human rights and media freedom, to listen to the issues they are currently facing in Afghanistan and neighbouring countries. Further meetings took place on 26 August and 15 September to discuss humanitarian access and longer-term development needs. The previous Foreign Secretary visited Pakistan on 2-3 September, and discussed the economic and humanitarian situation with Prime Minister Imran Khan and other senior Pakistani officials. The British High Commissioner in Islamabad has also convened donors, UN agencies and development partners to discuss these challenges.
