Asylum: Afghanistan

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what discussions she has had with Cabinet colleagues on adapting the disused public estate for the purposes of providing resettlement homes for refugees.

We continue to work with local authorities to source appropriate accommodation as quickly as possible for families already in the UK. So far, over 100 councils have agreed to house Afghans, and we would strongly urge every council across the country to contribute to this national effort.

We are keen to work with the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, the Cabinet Office, other Government departments and local authorities to realise appropriate accommodation opportunities to meet the demands of this urgent national response.
