During routine water sampling, as part of preventative maintenance, some readings of legionella bacteria were traced at HMP Wealstun. All the affected systems have been isolated and treated. The Facilities Management provider is currently investigating the reasons for the presence of legionella at the prison and will produce a report, which will include lessons learnt from this incident.

There are no recorded cases of legionnaires’ disease or Pontiac fever in HMP Wealstun.
