The Government is committed to increasing the use of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), including modular housing. MMC has the potential to improve the quality of new homes, deliver more energy efficient homes, reduce construction waste, improve productivity and address the shortage in construction skills.

At Budget 2021, we announced the creation of the MMC Taskforce, backed by £10 million of funding, to accelerate the delivery of MMC homes in England. The taskforce will consist of experts from across government and industry to fast-track the adoption of modern methods of construction. Once constituted, the taskforce will work closely with local authorities and mayoral combined authorities.

In addition, the Local Authority Acceleration Construction programme provides investment to unlock up to 32,000 additional homes on surplus public sector land more quickly using MMC.

The £535 million Small Sites Fund unlocks land for homes on small and stalled housing sites, with MMC requirements within Homes England grant agreements with local authorities for the Fund.
