Question for Department of Health and Social Care

UIN 13019, tabled on 9 June 2021

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, if he will make it his policy to make mental health representation on the boards of integrated care systems mandatory as part of the Government's plans to reorganise the NHS.

We are proposing to establish statutory integrated care systems (ICS), made up of an integrated care board and integrated care partnership, together referred to as the ICS. The proposed legislation will set out minimum membership of the integrated care board, which should include representatives from National Health Service trusts, primary care and local authorities. Local areas, by local agreement, will be able to go beyond these requirements to meet their local needs.

We would fully expect mental health to be represented both on the integrated care board and within the integrated care partnership. NHS England will be required to sign off integrated care board constitutions and will ensure that mental health is properly represented.
