Question for Department of Health and Social Care

UIN 7197, tabled on 25 May 2021

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what recent assessment his Department has made of the number of clinical commissioning groups that have (a) partially or (b) fully decommissioned IVF services; and what steps he is taking to prevent clinical commissioning groups from decommissioning those services.

This answer is the replacement for a previous holding answer.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) sets out clinical guidelines for the provision of fertility services, including in vitro fertilisation.

We have made no such assessment. However, we expect clinical commissioning groups to commission fertility services in line with NICE’s guidelines, so that there is equitable access across England.

We have undertaken an internal review of this issue and are currently considering options to address these variations.
