Pupil Exclusions

Question for Department for Education

UIN 6288, tabled on 24 May 2021

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, how an excluded pupil's non-attendance is recorded; and whether that non-attendance contributes to a school's attendance figures.

Where a pupil is suspended or excluded from school and no alternative provision has been made for a pupil at the time the attendance register is taken, the pupil will be recorded as absent (using attendance code E). This will be reflected in the school’s attendance figures.

Alternative provision must be arranged from the sixth day of any suspension or permanent exclusion.

Named day
Named day questions only occur in the House of Commons. The MP tabling the question specifies the date on which they should receive an answer. MPs may not table more than five named day questions on a single day.
