Asylum: Housing

Question for Home Office

UIN 725, tabled on 12 May 2021

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, whose responsibility it is to arrange and provide cleaning materials, tools and services in accommodation provided to asylum seekers.

For those asylum seekers who are accommodated in Initial Accommodation or other contingency accommodation the relevant providers are responsible for the cleaning of all communal areas, along with the service and maintenance of the accommodation.

In more permanent dispersal accommodation providers are responsible for the maintenance of the accommodation, and any problems with the accommodation should be reported to the provider using the AIRE service. Asylum seekers in this type of accommodation receive a weekly support payment to buy essential items, which includes cleaning products.
