Broadband: Business Rates

Question for Treasury

UIN HL13211, tabled on 9 February 2021

To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have to exempt fibre lines from business rates.

Answered on

23 February 2021

The Government recognises that internet connectivity is a critical part of modern life and essential to allow businesses to compete and grow in the new digital economy. As announced at Autumn Statement 2016, the Government is providing 100 per cent business rates relief for new full-fibre infrastructure for a five-year period from 1 April 2017.

The fundamental review of business rates will consider all parts of the business rates system, including reliefs and exemptions.
