To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, how many times the information commissioner (a) investigated and (b) fined companies for breaching an employee's right to privacy (i) in each of the five years to April 2020 and (ii) since April 2020.

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is currently investigating eight cases in relation to employees’ right to privacy in connection with the use of employee monitoring technology. The ICO has reported that it has not been possible to provide details of the concluded cases in each of the five years to April 2020 within the very limited time available.

My department will write to the Honourable Member with further details in due course and place a copy of the letter in the House Library.
