Barristers: Coronavirus

Question for Treasury

UIN HL5248, tabled on 3 June 2020

To ask Her Majesty's Government what plans they have, if any, to exempt barristers from business rates due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Office space, such as barristers’ chambers, is not eligible for the retail, hospitality and leisure relief business rates relief. A range of further measures to support all businesses, including those not eligible for the business rates holiday, has been made available. For example, the Government has launched the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme to help firms keep people in employment, and the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme.
