Google: Data Protection

Question for Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport

UIN 31505, tabled on 18 March 2020

To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, pursuant to the Answer of 17 March 2020 to Question 28618, whether UK citizen data has been involved in cases concerning Google investigated by the Irish Data Protection Commission since 25 May 2018.

The Irish Data Protection Commission acts independently of the governments in both the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom. We cannot comment on the specific nature of its investigations, but are aware of its inquiry into Google’s use of geo-location data following complaints brought by consumer groups from across the EU. Further details on this and other investigations can be viewed on the Commission’s website at: https://www.dataprotection.ie/.
