The Government is fully committed to promoting and protecting human rights for all individuals, including indigenous people, without discrimination on any grounds. The UK works both bilaterally and through international institutions such as the United Nations to improve the situation of indigenous people around the world. In 2007, the UK supported the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and has signed and ratified the Council of Europe's European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, designed to protect and promote regional and minority languages.
