Pakistan: Religious Freedom

Question for Foreign and Commonwealth Office

UIN 1665, tabled on 17 October 2019

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made for the implications of his policies of the report of the Pakistani Minorities and Freedom of Religion or Belief APPG entitled, Religious Minorities of Pakistan: Report of a Parliamentary Visit, published on 9 September 2019.

We remain concerned about continuing reports of discrimination against religious minorities in Pakistan. The Government strongly condemns the persecution of all minorities, including the targeting of innocent people based on their beliefs. We regularly raise our concerns about the use of the blasphemy laws with the Pakistani Government at a senior level. The British Government continues to urge Pakistan to honour its human rights obligations, including those related to religious minorities, and to uphold the rule of law.
