Question for Department of Health and Social Care

UIN 229236, tabled on 6 March 2019

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the ability of medium-sized companies to pay the proposed charges for continuing to submit technology appraisals and highly specialised technology recommendations.

15 March 2019

The Government consulted on the proposed introduction of charges for the development of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) technology appraisal and highly specialised technology recommendations and has taken full account of the comments received in the Government response which is available at the following link:

The Government states in the response that it is of the view that the proposed NICE charges are affordable for medium-sized companies, but that it will keep this position under review.

As explained in the Government response and Impact Assessment, small companies whose products are undergoing assessment will benefit from a 75% discount, which is intended to minimise barriers to the participation of small companies.
