China: Uyghurs

Question for Foreign and Commonwealth Office

UIN HL13658, tabled on 12 February 2019

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the statement by the government of Turkey calling on China to end the internment and persecution of Uighur Muslims; and what further steps they will take to engage with the government of China on this issue.

We have serious concerns about the human rights situation in Xinjiang and the Chinese Government’s deepening crackdown; including credible reports that over one million Uighur Muslims have been held in re-education camps, and reports of widespread surveillance and restrictions targeted at ethnic minorities.

We work closely and strategically with a wide range of international partners – including countries in and out of the EU – and will continue to do so.
