To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what information his Department holds on the number of protestors killed during demonstrations held by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria in Abuja in October 2018.

We are deeply concerned by reports that up to 50 people were killed in and around Abuja during protests by the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in October 2018. We have raised these concerns with the Nigerian Foreign Minister and the President's Chief of Staff, and welcome commitments by the Government of Nigeria to conduct a thorough investigation and to take appropriate action to hold accountable any member of the security forces held responsible for violations of Nigerian law. It is essential that security forces act in accordance with international law and work to protect civilians.
