To ask the Secretary of State for Education, what information his Department holds on the number of teaching vacancies in (a) the North East and (b) Sunderland in (i) 2016-17 and (ii) 2017-18.

The following attached table provides the number of full-time classroom teacher vacancies and temporarily filled posts in state funded secondary schools in the North East region, Sunderland local authority and in England, as of November 2016 and 2017.

 Includes advertised vacancies for full-time permanent appointments (or appointments of at least one term’s duration) plus vacancies filled on a temporary basis by a teacher on a contract of less than one year.
 Temporarily filled posts are those where a vacancy exists, advertised or not, which is currently being filled by a teacher on a contract of at least one term but less than a year.
 Figures are rounded to the nearest 10.
