Offshore Industry: North Sea

Question for Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

UIN HL10277, tabled on 11 September 2018

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of reports that UK oil and gas industries operating in the North Sea may suffer labour shortages in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

EU exit negotiations are progressing well and we are confident of a deal this autumn.

Free movement of people will end as we leave the EU and take back control of the numbers of people coming to live in the UK; however, the UK will continue to want to attract the brightest and best, from the EU and elsewhere, including in the oil and gas industry. The Migration Advisory Committee published their findings on patterns of EU migration and the role of migration in the wider economy on 18 September and the Government will be using their recommendations to help develop our future immigration system.
