Question for Home Office

UIN HL10025, tabled on 4 September 2018

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment have they made of whether the UK will maintain access to EU criminal databases after the UK’s withdrawal from the EU; and if none, what assessment they have made of the possible effects on crime rates in the UK of losing such access.

The Government is committed to ongoing cooperation with the EU on security, law enforcement and criminal justice. That is why we are seeking a new, coherent and legally binding agreement on internal security which preserves mutually beneficial operational capabilities whilst allowing the UK and EU to continue to work together to combat fast evolving security threats.

The Government’s July White Paper outlines that our proposed Security Partnership should cover the breadth of the shared security interests of the UK and the EU, including protecting mutually beneficial security, law enforcement and criminal justice operational capabilities such as mechanisms for rapid and secure data exchange.
