UIN HL9611, tabled on 17 July 2018

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of whether close alignment to the EU common rulebook will disadvantage the UK when pursuing new trade deals with foreign nations.

As the Prime Minister has said, “there will be no limit to the possibility of us doing trade deals around the rest of the world once we leave the European Union…”

The proposals in the white paper “The future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union” would ensure the UK has an independent trade policy. The UK would be able to have the ability to secure trade deals with other countries, including the US.
