Golan Heights: Elections

Question for Foreign and Commonwealth Office

UIN 130079, tabled on 27 February 2018

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what assessment he has made of the implications of Israel’s plans to hold local elections in the Golan Heights; and if he will make a statement.

Whilst we have not made an assessment on this specific issue, we consider the Golan Heights to be Occupied Territory. We continue to call on Israel, as the occupying power, to uphold its obligations under international law. This includes abiding by UN Security Council Resolution 497 (1981) and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
