Bicycles: Hire Services

Question for Department for Transport

UIN 120614, tabled on 20 December 2017

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what steps he is taking to ensure that local authorities have the necessary powers to regulate and manage bike-share schemes in their local authority areas.

Local authorities currently have powers to act if bicycles, including shared bicycles, are causing an obstruction or nuisance. However, the Department has received representations to the effect that local authorities may find it useful to have specific powers to regulate these schemes, and is continuing to discuss possible ways forward with stakeholders.
