Our Embassy in Minsk pays close attention to developments in the field of political freedoms and human rights in Belarus and regularly encourages the government to make progress in these areas. Independent trades unions exist in Belarus but they and their members are under pressure, as reflected in the 2017 Freedom House report on Belarus.

Our Embassy is currently monitoring the cases of Henadz Fyadynich and Aliaksei Komlik of the Trade Union of the Radio Electronic Industry who were detained on tax evasion charges following a search of their offices in August. Both men have been released while an investigation continues. ‚Äč
