To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office, whether his Department has assessed the practicality of implementing an automatic voter registration system.

As stated during the recent Westminster Hall Debate on Voter Registration in Nottingham North Constituency, the Government has no plans to introduce automatic registration, as it contradicts the principle which underpins Individual Electoral Registration, that individuals are responsible for registering and that this should be done at a time and place of their choosing. As such, we have not made any assessment relating to the introduction of automatic registration.

Named day questions only occur in the House of Commons. The MP tabling the question specifies the date on which they should receive an answer. MPs may not table more than five named day questions on a single day.
