The Secretary of State for Transport is responsible for assessing the business cases of transport schemes, including the Mersey Gateway Bridge. Once assessed, the Chief Secretary to the Treasury is responsible for the approval of funding of transport schemes, which includes the Mersey Gateway Bridge.
