To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, what representations he has received on restrictions on the right to freedom of religion or belief for Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang, China.

​We remain deeply concerned about restrictions on freedom of religion or belief in China, particularly in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. We raised our concerns with the Chinese authorities at the UK/China Human Rights Dialogue which took place on 27 June 2017.

I receive a large amount of Parliamentary questions and correspondence on human rights in China, including on this issue. The FCO maintains an extensive network of contacts across China and the UK, and regularly meets with stakeholders to hear their views and concerns. This includes the China Human Rights NGO roundtable held on 28 September, where this particular issue, amongst others was discussed.
