Pupils: Per Capita Costs

Question for Department for Education

UIN 6626, tabled on 20 July 2017

To ask the Secretary of State for Education, pursuant to her oral statement of 17 July 2017 Official Report, column 564, whether the three per cent increase in per pupil funding for underfunded schools will be provided in (a) cash terms or (b) real terms.

Following the recent announcement of an additional £1.3 billion across 2018-19 and 2019-20, on top of existing spending plans, funding per pupil will now be maintained in real terms up to 2020. The additional investment will provide for a cash increase through the national funding formula of at least 1% by 2019-20 for all schools, compared to their baseline. Those schools that have been underfunded will see cash gains of up to 3% a year in both years.
