House of Lords written question HL169.

Question for Foreign and Commonwealth Office

UIN HL169, tabled on 26 June 2017

Her Majesty's Government what representations they have made to the Republic of Iran concerning the continuing persecution of religious and ethnic minorities, as described in the Annual report of the UN Secretary-General to the Human Rights Council submitted on 13 March, Situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran A/HRC/34/40.

Answered on

6 July 2017

We are concerned about the human rights situation in Iran, in particular the treatment of religious and ethnic minorities. The UK continues to lead international efforts to encourage Iran to improve its human rights record. We raise individual cases with the Iranian government, in addition to the use of the death penalty, juvenile executions, and continued persecution of religious and ethnic minorities.
