To ask Her Majesty’s Government whether they will make representations to the government of the Philippines for a judicial hearing to be held relating to the arrest of Senator Leila de Lima.

We are aware of the ongoing cases involving Senator Leila de Lima and understand the next lower court hearing will be on 21 April. The British Embassy in Manila is following developments closely. We continue to underline the need for due legal process to be followed and for the right to a fair trial to be upheld. Our position on the rule of law is consistent and well known in the Philippines.
