To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, whether UK funding to the Burmese army is conditional upon their commitment to an agreed plan to improve human rights in Burma.

The UK does not provide funding to the Burmese Army. We do however fund and provide educational training to the military which aims to promote an awareness of the role and responsibilities of the military within a democratic system, this training includes international humanitarian law and ethics in leadership. All engagement with the Burmese military is discussed with, and approved by, the democratically elected civilian government. We keep all defence engagement activity under constant review.
