To ask Her Majesty’s Government what was the staffing ratio in private prisons in England and Wales in each year since 2009.

Staff numbers in privately managed prisons are not the responsibility of NOMS and historically were not held. Arrangements are being made to capture and monitor these data as management information.
Privately managed prisons continue to play an important role in the prison estate and performance of all providers is closely monitored. Private providers are required to maintain a sufficient number of staff, with the requisite level of skill and experience to ensure that the prison is a safe, secure and decent environment.
