Question for Department of Health

UIN 14421, tabled on 2 November 2015

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, if he will itemise savings made by the NHS that have been attributable to the provisions of the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

My Rt. hon. Friend the Secretary of State outlined in his Written Ministerial Statement of 21 July 2015 (HCWS161), that £6.9 billion was saved through lower administration costs and has been reinvested in front line services in the last Parliament, with the Government achieving its target of reducing administration costs by a third.

The saving figures are the reduction in the Department’s total administration costs against the baseline set out in the Impact Assessment for the Health and Social Care Act. They are measured at a macro level, so an itemised breakdown is not available.
