Arms Trade: Egypt

Question for Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

UIN 9941, tabled on 10 September 2015

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, for which military vehicles components valued at £40 million were licensed for export to Egypt in March 2015; and if he will make a statement.

Answered on

9 October 2015

The licence was for chassis for manufacture of vehicles for use in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in Sinai. The licence application was carefully assessed against the Consolidated EU and National Arms Export Licensing Criteria and against the commitment made by EU Member States in August 2013 to suspend licensing for Egypt for equipment which might be used for internal repression.

All export licences are issued in strict accordance with the Consolidated EU and National Arms Export Licensing Criteria.
