To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, what recent progress has been made on Network Rail's East Coast Main Line level crossings closure programme.
14 July 2015
After 18 months of work, and following public consultation, I understand that Network Rail has now concluded its East Coast Main Line level crossing closure feasibility study as part of its commitment to delivering a safer, more efficient and reliable railway.
The study has informed preferred options for the closure of all 73 level crossings between Kings Cross and Doncaster and Network Rail has indicated its intention to progress these on a case-by-case basis as part of other planned improvement works on this line.
Network Rail has written to stakeholders explaining the results and its intended next steps.
