Welfare State: Northern Ireland

Question for Northern Ireland Office

UIN 900434, tabled on 16 June 2015

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, what recent discussions she has had with the Northern Ireland Executive on welfare reform.

Answered on

24 June 2015

My Rt hon Friend the Northern Ireland Secretary of State has held a series of bilateral and collective meetings with the Northern Ireland Executive parties to discuss possible solutions to the current impasse on welfare reform.

Welfare reform would replace a broken system with one that rewards work, protects the vulnerable and is fairer to taxpayers.

The issue will also be discussed at tomorrow’s meeting of the Stormont House Agreement Implementation review group.
