To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Baroness Anelay of St Johns on 22 January (HL4072), what are the consequences for the United Kingdom, as a signatory to the Geneva Convention, if Israel ignores its provisions.

The consequence is that the United Kingdom is entitled to call upon Israel to comply in full with its obligations as a Party to the Fourth Geneva Convention. The UK has done so on many occasions. We have also called on all parties to cooperate with the Commission of Inquiry that was established by the UN Human Rights Council, and attended the 17 December conference of the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention along with EU partners.
