To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, how many failed asylum seekers were deported in 2014; and if she will make a statement.

The UK has a proud tradition of providing sanctuary to those fleeing persecution but we will seek to remove those not found to be in need of international protection. 5,259 failed asylum seekers departed from the UK in the first nine months of 2014. In every year of this Government more illegal migrants have left the UK than in any year before 2010.

Named day questions only occur in the House of Commons. The MP tabling the question specifies the date on which they should receive an answer. MPs may not table more than five named day questions on a single day.
